Date & Time: August 12th (Fri), 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM Location: Room 311, Building No.2 Topics: Application and Prospects of Laser Ranging Technology in Astronomy and Lunar Science Abstract: The origins of satellite laser ranging (SLR) and lunar laser ranging (LLR) technology can be traced back to the need for determining orbits around people and related research on astronomy, geodynamics, and lunar science. As the relevant measurement technologies have developed rapidly, so has their scientific applications in various fields such as orbit determination and monitoring of celestial targets, measuring Earth's rotation parameters or changes in it, calibrating low-order gravitational fields, maintaining Earth-centered measurements systems with reference frames to refine atmospheric density models for lunar physical research. Future developments depend on both scientific requirements and technical breakthroughs.
